Immigration Records

Harris Saul became a naturalized US citizen in the Court of New York in 1888 under the name Harris Sholsky. He said that he arrived in the US in 1881. Before 1906, most immigrants were naturalized in state courts.

Sam Saul declared his intention to become a citizen of the US in 1911. He first arrived in New York in 1894. This is a copy of a document in the Atlanta Branch of the National Archives.

Joseph Lewis Saul declared his intention to become a citizen of the US in 1914. He arrived in the US in 1901. This is a copy of a document in the Atlanta Branch of the US Archives.

Vital Records

Joseph (JJ) and Bessie Price married in New York in 1891. Note that Joseph and his father David were still using the name “Sholsky.”

Sophie Saul Weiss was born in Washington, DC in 1895. Note that even though her parents were cousins, they used different spellings of their surname on the birth certificate.

Even though David Saul’s name is spelled “Saul” on his tombstone, his death certificate from 1911 in Atlanta, Georgia uses the name “Shalsky.”

Census Records

The 1920 Census for Greene County, New York. Sussman Saul and his wife, Mary, and daughter, Lottie lived next door to his son David and David’s family.
