The Saul Family Tree

main image

Family tree created for the 1951 reunion

Our first recorded ancestor, Solomon Isaac Saul, lived in Jonava, Kovno Gubernya, Empire of Russian. The town is still called Jonava, but now it is in Kaunas District, Lithuania. The oldest memory we have of Jonava was told to me by Milton Saul. He said that his grandfather told him that his grandfather remembered seeing Napoleon march through Jonava.

Jonava was founded at the beginning of the 17th century and is named for king Jan-Saveski. Several hundreds of years ago there was a small Jewish community in the Christian village Skarull, which lies on the left bank of the Vilia. At the end of the 18th century, the Jewish Community began to concentrate on the right bank of the river, on the lands of the nobleman Kosakovski. MORE
